The 29th Annual World’s Greatest Office Party, dubbed a party for a purpose was held on Thursday, December 5 at the Holiday Inn Gateway Centre in Flint Township. Through the contributions of community sponsors and individuals who attended, the event raised $60,400 that will directly benefit the residential and clinical programs that Whaley Children’s Center provides to nearly 90 children each year. The event’s previous fundraising record was set in 2006 when $44,503 was raised.
“We are incredibly humbled and grateful of the support this community has shown,” said Katrina Khouri, Director of Development at Whaley Children’s Center. “We attribute this year’s fundraising success to nearly 100 volunteers who helped organize and raise awareness of the event. The generosity of volunteers and businesses is vital to every event’s success, especially one of this magnitude. This is one of three special events that help us fill a 20% gap between government funding and our annual operating budget.”
There were several features throughout this year’s French Quarter themed event, including MLIVE’s Greatest Office Giveaway, Medawar’s one carat diamond earring giveaway and entertainment that included live music from Soul Serenade, Liquid Entertainment DJs Cha’Chi and BenJamin’, Living Art from Corunna High School, New Orleans inspired street performers, Louisiana Zydeco music from Soul Shake and second line jazz performances by Creole Kitchen jazz band.
“With nearly 1,000 community members attending, we had a great turnout.” said Khouri. “We appreciate everyone who came to the event and hope they will join us again next year on December 4, 2014 for another remarkable party for a purpose.”
Sponsors of the event included: Chasse Ballroom and Latin Dance Studio, Landaal Packaging Systems, FirstMerit, Elga Credit Union, HAP, Signs by Crannie, AT&T, Webcor Packaging, Wendling Orthodontics, Liberty Title, Sam’s Club, Financial Plus Federal Credit Union, Security Credit Union, Forever Young Med Spa, Icon Mortgage Lending, Dr. Bobby Mukkamala & Dr. Nita Kulkarni, Dr. Seif Saeed, The Rex Studio, PNC Bank, Next Advisory Group, Graff Truck Centers, Big John Steak and Onion, Wells Fargo, Diplomat Pharmacy, Holiday Inn Gateway Centre and Prudential Great Lakes Realty.
