Client Financial Services presents the 28th Annual Whaley Golf Classic on Monday, September 9 at Warwick Hills Golf and Country Club. The event is co-hosted George Blaha, voice of the Detroit Pistons, and Mateen Cleaves, Flint native and former Michigan State University basketball star, with all proceeds going to Whaley Children’s Center.
In addition to the 36 team outing at one of Michigan’s premier courses, Blaha and Cleaves will bring along many of their celebrity friends to take part in the day’s activities. Currently, some of the celebrities in attendance include Morris Peterson, Charlie Bell, Vinnie Johnson and Greg Kelser. Golfers will have the chance to meet all celebrity guests as well as bid on the chance to play nine holes with each golfer in the pre-outing celebrity auction.
After the outing, guests are encouraged to attend the awards dinner, which will include hosted cocktails, a three course meal from Warwick Hills Golf and Country Club and both live and silent auctions. Auction items include four lower-bowl seats to see the Detroit Pistons play the Miami Heat in the upcoming season, autographed sports memorabilia including photos of Ted Williams and Jack Nicklaus, a South African safari, and a condo vacation stay in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.
“This is more than just a golf outing,” said Whaley Special Events Coordinator DeAndra McCain. “With all of entertainment we have planned before, during and after the outing, our guests are sure to remember this event and all the hard work we have put in to make this an extremely enjoyable day for all in attendance—whether they are golfing or not.”
For those not interested in golfing, tickets for the evening’s dinner are available. With the purchase of a dinner ticket, guests are invited to take part in hosted cocktails, dinner and both the live and silent auction. In addition, the first thirty registrants are eligible to attend a canvas art party. Guests taking part in this event will be taught to paint by Dawn Crichton of SmARTee Paints while also enjoying a hosted wine bar.
Although the outing is full, non-golfing sponsorships are still available. Current sponsors include Client Financial Services, Security Credit Union, Al Bourdeau Insurance, Landaal Packaging, The Loeb Charitable Trust managed by FirstMerit Bank, Elga Credit Union, Signs by Crannie, Financial Plus Federal Credit Union, PNC Bank, Dr. Walter Barkey, Big John Steak and Onion, Research Money Management and Internet Payment Exchange (iPayx).
“The community has been overwhelmingly generous in their support of this event,” said Whaley Children’s Center’s Director of Development Katrina Khouri. “We are extremely grateful for their support and their presence, along with the presence of all other participants, directly which will help us to continue transforming lives and creating futures for all 48 heart beats we currently care for and all others we will have the opportunity to care for in the future.”
