Whaley Children’s Center hosted their annual Tux & Tennies Gala and Auction on May 3, 2014. This year, 335 community members attended the event at Grand Blanc Motorcars that raised $129,000 to benefit the programs and services offered by Whaley Children’s Center.

Presenting sponsor, Grand Blanc Motorcars, served as host of the event for the second consecutive year. Additional sponsors of the event included Walter Barkey, MD Dermatology, Medawar Jewelers, Landaal Packaging, FirstMerit PrivateBank, Security Credit Union, Financial Plus Credit Union, Regional Medical Imaging – RMI, C. Emcees Fred Hensler of Sapphire Blue Investment Partners and Marjory Raymer, MLive / Flint Journal Editor, hosted throughout the evening. Las Vegas’ Rat Pack Reprise provided the entertainment and guests participated in both a live and silent auction. The highest bids of the night went to the winners of a Costa Rican resort vacation donated by  Jim Gray of Vista Mar, an outing on a private jet donated by Fred Hensler and VIP tickets for the Mercedes-Benz New York Fashion Week donated by Dave Isbell of Grand Blanc Motorcars.

An appeal to purchase luggage was an emotional highpoint for most in attendance. The funds raised during this portion of the evening will provide luggage sets to the children at the Whaley Children’s Center—most of whom arrive with their few possessions in a garbage bag. With an overwhelming amount of pledges, the Center raised $21,660 during this appeal.
