Charity auction aims to raise $150,000 to support WCC’s programs and services

FLINT, Mich. — Rebecca Bartley with Icon Mortgage Lending will present the annual Tux & Tennies Gala and Auction on Saturday, May 9, 2015, from 5:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. at Grand Blanc Motorcars in Grand Blanc, Mich.  All proceeds will benefit Whaley Children’s Center’s (WCC) nationally accredited residential and clinical programs for children who have suffered from abuse and neglect.

“Whaley Children’s Center holds a special place in my heart.  I was in an orphanage when I was little, and I understand some of the pain that those kids are going through. But without the love and care of the staff there, I wouldn’t be where I am today. They made a huge impact on my life and it is one that I will never forget,” said Rebecca Bartley, Title Sponsor and WCC Board Member. “It’s important that our community gives back and helps those who need it most, especially children.”

The Tux & Tennies Gala is one of WCC’s three major annual fundraisers and will feature live entertainment by Sounds of Sinatra with the Motor City Horns, cocktail hour, dinner, as well as a live and silent auction. The Sounds of Sinatra, featuring Mark Randisi with the Motor City Horns, is an 18-piece jazz orchestra from Detroit. They performed at the Gala in 2013 and were favored among guests.

“Last year, we raised $129,000, but this year we hope to raise $150,000,” said Kevin Roach, WCC President & CEO. “The success of our events would not happen if it weren’t for all of the support we receive from our sponsors, donors and volunteers.”

Whaley Children’s Center is an independent, 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization founded in 1926 that provides residential child care services to children age 5- 17 years old who have suffered chronic and profound abuse and neglect.
