On Monday, January 20 from 10:30 a.m.-12 p.m., Congressman Dan Kildee and his staff will spend time playing games and reading books with the children at Whaley Children’s Center, 1201 N Grand Traverse St., Flint, Mich. 48503.
“Our staff is excited that Congressman Kildee has chosen to spend time with our children on MLK day,” said Katrina Khouri, Director of Development at Whaley Children’s Center. “Our children will meet Mr. Kildee and his staff, ask them questions about what they do as well as spend time playing and just being kids.”
Because many have Monday as a holiday, individuals and groups see Martin Luther King, Jr. Day as a day to serve their communities in some capacity.
“By spending some time with our children on their day away from work, it demonstrates to our kids that the whole community believes in them and is working to help them be successful,” said Khouri. “It helps reinforce that their past does not define their future and that they are on the path to transforming their lives.”
